Feldman Legal Advisors’ Courtney Barnes, Esq. Advocates for Psilocybin Decriminalization in Connecticut

Courtney Barnes, Esq. was one of the policy reform activists who testified at the Psilocybin Decriminalization Forum that took place at the Connecticut Capitol last week. Organized by Last Prisoner Project, over a dozen therapists, researchers, attorneys, and advocates came together to speak about the value of psilocybin from both a mental health and economic perspective. The event marks the first psilocybin decriminalization informational forum of the 2024 legislative season.

Courtney Barnes, a thought leader in psychedelics policy reform and Counsel to Feldman Legal Advisors, presented a spirited and logical case for statewide reformation of psilocybin. She believes decriminalization should come before (or concurrently) with regulated access to natural medicines.

“I am actually a huge proponent of decriminalization first, show the people that this isn’t something that we should be criminalizing and then create a responsible regulated access model that allows people to profit off those same compounds,” she said.

Beyond Courtney’s work in advocacy, she regularly advises clients on regulatory compliance, risk management, contract creation, and strategic operational matters regarding hemp, cannabis, and other natural products in highly regulated industries. She is experienced in nonprofit formation and compliance, and provides DEA, FDA, and state regulatory guidance to CPG manufacturers, retailers, and service providers.

We are proud to continue partnering with leaders like Courtney who drive meaningful discussions. Her effort to modernize laws around personal freedoms and healthcare represents our identity as a firm. We are honored to have her excellent legal skills available to clients at Feldman Legal Advisors PLLC.
